Ex-Nigerian Boxing Champion, Ngozika Ekwelum, has advised World Boxing Champion, Anthony Joshua, to remain focused and sustain his training head of his unification fight with Tyson Fury.

Ekwelum, a former heavyweight champion, gave the advice on Friday in an interview with us
He spoke against the court order holding up Joshua versus Fury’s fight earlier scheduled for Aug. 14.

He said: “There is nothing wrong with the court order, which is to be obeyed, but to some boxers it might bring about staying away from trainning for now.

“It is not the time for Joshua to stop his training programme because it will tell on him when he ends it abruptly due to the court decision.

“The important thing is that he will definitely face either of the two for the unification bout of all the heavyweight boxing staple in the world.

“This is a big task that he should handle with all the seriousness it deserves,” Ekwelum said.

He urged the Federal Government to continue to support Joshua, saying that the country stood to benefit greatly from his success.

“It is important for the federal government to support him in his quest to once again pick the unified world heavyweight champion, even though Britain will take the shine.

“It will speak well of Nigeria that it supported its citizen, though he is bearing British flag.

“But Joshua will always be grateful,” said Ekwelum, who held the Nigerian and African Boxing Union Heavyweight titles in the 1970s and 1980s.
